Oh Deer!
Another game design is coming together. Fitz’s concept and joint design of the genre and mechanics.
I’m working at a day job, plus managing a small business, plus working on a couple of novels, so game design is a fun way to get my head out of all that – just as a good, absorbing hobby ought to be. Of course, I’d love to sell a game or win a contest with a design. In the meantime. I’m learning so much about it.
One of the things this particular project has taught me is how having a big picture can help. This has been through several conceptual revisions over the past year, but when we went back to the original idea (only cards, no boards or tokens, a really central Take that! element and lots of reversals of fortunes), it all came together nicely.
Even though we haven’t worked out all the mechanics, we’ve started looking at making it language independent, by way of iconography for ALL rules.
I’m arguing for submitting this one direct to publishers instead of waiting for a suitable contest.
