WV Political Notes
Gee I’d have cleaned up a bit–eloquence-wise–if I had known I’d get so many hits on the blog by linking to the Post article.
Instead, I’ll comment on another bit of WV news. I cannot be the only West Virginian to be disturbed by the FBI sting operation in Logan County in the recent vote-buying case.
In a moment I’ll go do my usual 5 minutes–I mean thorough research–on the net to see if anyone is talking about it. (They are.)
In a nutshell, the feds planted a legislature candidate in the 2004 election and used this fake candidate try to get the the sting targets to help him buy votes.
(Aside, Tom said he heard they used pints of Kessler’s as bribes, showing you just how little these voters value their vote.)
Here’s the link that explains just what happened.
FBI’s Sham Candidate Crawled Under W.Va.’s Political Rock
I certainly do agree that Logan politics are awful, even in a state where government and corruption nearly always come as a couple. But hold on there–are the voters and the elections in West Virginia so worthless that the FBI can just plant candidates and withdraw them at will? What the hell?
Sigh. Get back to work. Nobody cares. Not when Abramoff is getting ready to take down half of Washington.
